A week of innovation

This week there’s a lot of hoopla coming our way from Detroit’s annual North American International Auto Show and from Las Vegas’s Consumer Electronics Show.  Some pretty fantastic and fantastical innovations being shown and written about, many of which tickle the imagination and even make you want to tear out your wallet (or plastic) to be one of the first in your neighborhood to bring some of it home.

But there are other fun, low tech innovations being introduced as well.

Almost everyone loves Legos (even if they won’t admit it anymore). Now, thanks to Rod Giles, there’s a Superman TV that sports an actual flying Man of Steel – and it’s make from Legos! You can just hear that famous theme song blaring and watch the Christopher Reeve-style Superman soar across your Lego TV.

Another American favorite is the rocking chair. Having been a fan for years myself, this product is definitely in the “wonder if it really works” category.

With creative carpentry, this baby cradle becomes two stylish rockers

London designer Martin Price has created a Baby’s Rocking Cradle and turned it, through a bit of creative carpentry, into two stylish rocking chairs. Now that’s what I call repurposing with flair. Though still a prototype, this convertible cradle idea would definitely give the no-longer-needed formerly necessity an interesting new life. Wouldn’t it be fun to have as a conversation piece!
