Speak up and Everybody Wins

A few months ago, I did a column on simple ways anyone could make a difference in people’s lives around the globe http://tinyurl.com/6ujulm

Now there’s a new opportunity for giving, a challenge that’s as easy as suggesting a worthy cause, and instead of benefiting someone half a world away, recipients will be here in the U.S.

GlobalGiving, a registered 501(c)3, finds and researchs worthy projects – ranging from environmental and sustainability to disaster relief to health-related – from around the world, then connects them with donors to help fund them.

Now they are focusing their efforts on the U.S. with a new opportunity – the GlobalGiving US Open Access Project Challenge 2009.

The U.S. Open Challenge – which runs from June 8 – 30th – lets you nominate any US-based organization (even your own) and gives them a chance to earn a permanent spot on the GlobalGiving website. To qualify, that project / organization must generate $4,000 from at least 5o unique donors during this timeframe.  Qualifying organizations then can compete for added funding. The top 3 qualifiers will receive awards of $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000, respectively.

On top of this, the project receiving the highest number of donations will receive an added $3,000.

The deadline to submit a nomination is May 14th. To nominate an organization, go to http://tinyurl.com/d3tzn5 today.
