Coloring Earth Green with Aaron Brothers

Aaron Brothers Contest 1Climate change and the environment have captured national attention.

Getting kids involved in the conversation is key to inspiring the younger generation. Aaron Brothers Art & Framing has come up with a fun way to do just that.

In honor of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, art store Aaron Brothers is sponsoring a national kids art contest called Coloring Earth Green.

Teachers can use a free kit called “Green Thought Starters” for ideas and “eco-easy” tips to teach children how to go green. The kit  – which teachers can download – includes “Coloring Earth Green” art entry examples, along with coupons for teachers, parents and friends.

The contest has two age categories – children ages 5 through 8 years olds and 9 through 12 years old as of February 28, 2010. Each group will have three winners.

The contest’s total prize package is estimated at approximately $26,000.

The Grand Prize winner from each group will win a trip for four people to the Crayola Factory in Easton, Pennsylvania. This includes air travel and hotel accommodations for three days and two nights, and a $500 Aaron Brothers gift card. Their schools will each receive a $1,000 gift card. And their artwork will be custom framed and displayed at the Crayola Factory!

Each Second Place Prize winner will win a $200 Aaron Brothers gift card and their designated schools will receive a $500 Aaron Brothers gift card.

Each Third Place Prize winner will get a $100 Aaron Brothers gift card. Their designated schools get a $300 Aaron Brothers gift card.

This the first time Crayola’s been involved, said Christine Robinson of the Aaron Brothers’ Redding, California store.

According to Jim King, Aaron Brothers General Manager, the contest is to encourage kids to express their awareness of the environment and the importance of taking care of the planet.

This contest is being held along with an in-store “green” event – Aaron Brothers’ annual Great Frame Trade-In Event™, where customers can bring in an old frame and get a discount on a new one. The old ones will be sent to a company that will recycle them into new useful items.

There’s been some advertising about Coloring Earth Green contest so far, especially online via social networks like Facebook and Twitter, as well as word of mouth. Also schools should have received information packets about this from Aaron Brothers corporate office.

With the opportunity to have your artwork displayed at the Crayola factory, kids and parents are encouraged to get those entries in early. You can find complete contest rules at www.aaronbrothers.com or at your local Aaron Brothers store.
