Tomorrow is Earth Hour. This world-wide event, launched in 2008 by the World Wildlife Fund and Leo Burnett, is an effort to encourage households and businesses to turn off non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness about the need to take action on climate change.
Since the 1st event, which had 2.2 million citizens of Sydney, Australia participate, it’s grown to hundreds of cities and countries across the globe taking part. This year, turn off any non-essential lights on March 23rd between 8:30 to 9:30 pm wherever you are. Even Google is participating. During Earth Hour, Google’s homepage in the United States, Colombia, Canada, Denmark, Ireland and the UK was turned to a black background. Their tagline is, “We’ve turned the lights out. Now it’s your turn – Earth Hour.”
This simple step is an easy way to conserve energy, as well as a way to show your commitment to doing something good for the planet. So why not take part . Join the “I Will if You Will” Challenge and encourage your neighbors to do the same. Light some candles, gather the family and/or friends together and spend some quality time together.
