The 2013 list of pesticide-filled produce is here

EWG 2013 Pesticide List

Just saw the latest list of produce that’s on the Environmental Working Group’s 9th annual 2013 “Dirty dozen” list. It documents pesticide contamination for 48 popular fruits and vegetables based on U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

There are some eye-openers here. But the good news is what’s on the “clean” list this year. Take a look below. Then perhaps make some different choices the next time you’re out shopping.

Being an informed consumer is getting to be more critical every day.

  1. I’m assuming that both the clean and dirty lists are non-organic. If so, we might conclude that the objects on the clean list are safe to buy non-organic.

    • As with anything else, go prudently. As corn is on the “clean” list but also since at least 85% of US corn is genetically modified, that isn’t one I’d buy except for organic. Also I’d be wary of papayas as I understand that they spray all papayas that come from Hawaii to the mainland.

So being an educated consumer and purchasing based on THAT is a good way to go.
