Who are we in the face of upset and despair? Consider these Buddhist teachings

So many are still traumatized, deeply upset and concerned after the results of the election.

Responding to this despair isn’t easy. Moving forward is difficult, but incredibly necessary. After reading so many emails and newsletters online today, one came across that has words of hope in the face of darkness that many are reeling from.

Buddhist teachers across the country have written their perspectives on what we are facing, offering a perspective and words of wisdom we can take heart from. Their counsel is a light we can use to guide us forward in the days to come.

The important thing to remember is that we CAN get through this. We can work together, comfort each other, and step forward. Courage isn’t being without fear. It’s taking your fear by the hand, like that of a child, and stepping forward into the unknown with it.

We can do that. We’ve done it before.

So have courage. Take heart. And know that we will get through the tomorrow’s that are coming, whatever they may look like. One of my favorite quotes seems apropos:

“You’re braver than you believe, You’re stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”

Christopher Robin to Pooh Bear
