New York City is famous for many things – Radio City Music Hall, the Statue of Liberty and, for those in the know, the High Line. This last is an above-ground park on the city’s West side that stretches from its original 14th to 20th Streets now extends to 30th Street.
This natural wonder – an abandoned elevated train line that was converted into a splendid park area – has sparked the imagination of many, inspiring natural projects similar in scope and creativity throughout the world.
Among them is a project that’s been in the making for the past 5 years called notably enough The Lowline.
Originally referred to as the Delancey Underground, this amazing piece of New York City real estate has taken a long abandoned underground former trolley station and will transform it into the City’s most amazing park yet.
To do this, the creative spirits behind the project have had to innovate. New types of solar lighting have had to be invented. An entire Lowline Lab was created to not only show the public what this phenomenon will be but to demonstrate and test out the newly designed technologies that ultimately will help make the Lowline work year-round.
After all, who wouldn’t want to be able to enjoy year round Nature and sunshine even in the dead of a dreary cold NYC winter? When this project finally opens up, slated for spring of 2021, you can count on that the lines to see it will be blocks long for a very long time.
